REPORTS from the City Schools Division indicate that the city’s various schools have taken some P10 million worth of damage from the end of July magnitude 7 earthquake.

City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Federico Martin said that the damage estimates are from the assessment of disaster risk reduction and management personnel, and that consolidated damage reports have been transmitted to the central Department of Education (DepEd) office for allocation of repair funding.

The local school board also allocated a yet undisclosed amount of funding for the initiation of repairs ahead of the expected November return to full face-to-face classes.

Martin said that the city will first utilize the local school board funding while waiting for the DepEd to allocate funds for repairs.

Notable damages incurred by the school buildings were cracks on the walls, damaged window panes and doors and hairline cracks on the floors which are considered as subject to repair.
